Ben Collier grew up near Madison, Wisconsin and attended the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater for his undergraduate degree where he double majored in Management of Computer Systems and Math Statistics. After college Ben worked as a software developer at Quad Graphics working heavily in database driven development of inventory and warehousing systems. Ben attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison for his MBA, with an emphasis in Information Systems. During the summer of 2006, Ben interned at IBM in Rochester, MN where he managed two team projects relating to web-based server management tools.
Ben now resides in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where he attends Carnegie Mellon University for a PhD at the Tepper School of Business in Organizational Behavior and Information Systems. His research interests include Production Communities (e.g. Wikipedia, Open Source Software), Peer-to-Peer Lending Markets (e.g. Prosper,com, LendingClub), and Organizational Learning in Online Communities.
